Our Staff - Mavis Sacher

Mrs. Sacher is a graduate from the University of Calgary with a Bachelor of Science majoring in Cellular, Molecular and Microbial biology and a Bachelor of Education. Thereafter, she returned to her alma mater to complete a Masters of Education specializing in Educational Technology in 2000.

Mrs. Sacher has taught for the past 12 years in the areas of science and mathematics at the Calgary Board of Education, Chinook’s Edge School Division and most recently with the Rocky View School Division.

Her passion in online education was initiated during her years at university and has been cultivated through pioneering projects with the Alberta Online Consortium on developing online courseware in math and sciences.Most recently she took part in a collaborative team producing the new online chemistry curriculum with Alberta Education.


Mrs. Sacher has served as the Director of Technology and curriculum instruction for the Sunchild E-learning community school for the last 8 years and is a founding member of the Sunchild E-learning community school program.

As Sunchild E-learning continues to grow and expand, we look forward to the continued educational leadership and direction by Mrs. Sacher in the coming years.

The Sunchild E-learning community school has been in operations since 2000. Sunchild E-learning Community currently serves some 400 students in over 23 First Nation communities in Alberta and the Northwest territories.

Featured in TIME magazine, Sunchild E-learning has been nationally and internationally recognized for its educational work with aboriginal communities presenting on behalf of the Canadian and Alberta governments its model of education delivery throughout Canada, Australia and China.
