Mr RobinsHello! My name is Ian Robins. I'll be your instructor for English and Social Studies for grades 11 and 12. I'd like to let you know a little about myself just so I don't seem like some disembodied voice out there in cyber-space. So I thought I'd share with you some facts about my history and experiences and the things that make me tick.

I first started teaching in Australia years ago but I haven't always been teaching during that time. Every now and again I've taken a break to try other interesting stuff like working on ranches, raising horses, being a musician and traveling around the planet. I believe to be a good teacher you have to be a life-long learner and that means trying different things. You have to keep a balance in your life

My folks were English but I was born in Egypt. So I grew up around a lot of ancient ruins and history was all around me. Maybe that's why I've always been fascinated with history. I love learning about different cultures and people. I also love to share that knowledge.

I first came to Canada in 1988 from Australia. I taught for fourteen years in the land down under and then did some travelling. I worked in various fields before getting involved with drug treatment programs for youth and then finally back into teaching. I spent six years in the Northwest Territories teaching in a Dogrib First Nation community high school. My wife, Val, and I both enjoyed living in a native community and learned a lot about the culture.

After living in the south of the province for a few years, I took a position at Sunchild First Nation School teaching senior high English and Social Studies. I really enjoyed my time at the school and living on the rez. After a couple of years, Val and I moved into Rocky Mountain House where we lived for three years before moving out here to British Columbia.

I've always liked the outdoors and enjoy hiking, fly-fishing, riding my motorbike on long trips through the mountains and skiing. In the winter I work weekends as a ski instructor. Back in Australia, I did quite a bit of surfing too. I still have two sons over there who surf. Oh yes! I'm a grand dad too! So there it is! Now you have an idea of who it is you're dealing with. Like I said, I'm a great believer in being a life-long learner. You're never too old to learn something new. God has really blessed me that way and, so far, it's been a real adventure.

So feel free to contact me any time. I'm only an email or phone call away. My biggest desire for you guys is to have success. So run the race and don't give up. Keep up with the assignments and manage your time well. That's more than half the battle. Talk to you soon and God bless!
